Imphal, September 13 2014 :
After a team of Lamlai Police yesterday detained a mother of a member of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System Students' Wing, an enraged group of people today launched a court mass arrest movement today.
As a part of the recent police crack down in which many leaders and members of JCILPS were arrested, police arrested Mayanglambam Sunita of Sekta Mayai Leikai for her refusal to disclose the whereabouts of her son M Anil (22) at around 3 pm yesterday.
Taking strong exception to the arbitrary detention, a large number of people of the locality gathered to launch a mass court arrest movement this afternoon.
Soon after, a team of Lamlai Police arrived at the scene and deposited Sunita there.
Speaking to media persons about the detention of Sunita, Sekta Meira Paibi Apunba Lup joint secretary Phijam (O) Khomdonbi said that they went to Lamlai police station seeking Sunita's release yesterday itself but police did not give any positive response.
Sunita was not released even this morning.
Subsequently, people of the locality together with JCILPS members held a meeting and decided to launch a mass court arrest campaign.
However, the proposed agitation was called off as police released Sunita in the nick of time.
If police try any such misadventure in future in Sekta area, people of the locality would fight back in a befitting manner, Khomdonbi said.
Even though the proposed court arrest movement was called off, people took out a rally in protest against arbitrary detention of Sunita.
Participants raised slogans like "Implement ILPS in Manipur", "Release all arrested ILPS activists without any condition", "Dismiss Additional SP Y Victoria" etc.
