Imphal, March 13 2023:
A number of Congress workers today staged a protest demonstration in front of the Raj Bhavan gate against the BJP Government's crony capitalism.
The protest demonstration was a part of the Nation-wide protest staged under an instruction of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) .
Apart from denouncing several policies and programmes taken up by the Modi Government, the Congress accused the BJP Government of investing a huge amount of money collected from the masses in the Adani Group.
A large number of Congress leaders and workers including office bearers of MPCC, Mahila Congress, Youth Congress and NSUI assembled together at Congress Bhavan, BT Road before marching to the Raj Bhavan.
They held placards which read as "MPCC demands Modi Government to stop crony capitalism", "Congress stands against changing rules to benefit Adani", "Congress stands for the poor and the common men", "Probe Hindenburg Report by the Chief Justice of Supreme Court", "Forceful Investments of LIC, SBI and other Nationalised banks are illegal" and "Debate in Parliament on investment by LIC, SBI, public sector banks and financial institutions in Adani" .
Talking to media persons about the protest, MPCC senior spokesman N Bupenda Meitei who is also a member of AICC said that Rahul Gandhi and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge have been demanding a probe by a joint parliamentary committee into the Hindenburg Research Report on the crony capitalism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his close friend Adani.
But all the records of the statements given by Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge regarding the Adani Group have been removed from both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha and it only indicates that India is no longer a democracy, Bupenda said.
All the scams which surfaced during the time of Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee were probed by joint parliamentary committees but Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been maintaining a stoic silence and refusing all proposals to probe the Adani scam by a joint parliamentary committee, he said.
The LIC was forced to invest huge amounts in the Adani Group, he said.
It looks like there is a secret behind Narendra Modi's refusal to probe how huge amounts of money collected from the common people and public sector undertakings were invested in the Adani Group, the MPCC spokesman said.
