Alfred greets people with Easter eggs

Ukhrul, April 12 2020:
Ukhrul Assembly Constituency MLA Alfred Arthur Kanngam, while sharing the joy and happiness of holy week observance, greeted the people of Ukhrul town with Easter eggs on the occasion of Easter Sunday celebration.
The Nationwide lockdown has prevented Christian community of Ukhrul town to go outside and celebrate worship services for holy week and Easter Sunday together in the Church.
However the MLA, to observe the day together in a more meaningful way gifted eggs to every individual in the town irrespective of their religious practices to comfort and enlivened them during the emergency crisis.
This is to ensure the residents of Ukhrul town to relieve the stress of lockdown and strengthen the feeling of oneness and inculcate true spirit of social responsibility to fight against COVID-19 in the coming days.
A resident from Dungrei, Hunpung village expressed that they decorated egg and wrote: "Thank You Alfred Arthur Kanngam" for your humanitarian services.
While Makra Vasha from Awontang, Ukhrul expressed that he will preserve the easter egg as the gift was arranged by MLA himself for the Easter Sunday celebration.
From a Christian perspective, Easter eggs are said to represent Jesus' emergence from the tomb and resurrection.
While an egg is also considered as a symbol of new life, fertility and rebirth.
Pastors of the respective Ukhrul town Churches first blessed the egg by pronouncing a special prayer to it.
While Rev Mathew Mung, Pastor of Phungyo Baptist Church Tangrei, Ukhrul prayed the Almighty God for his divine intervention and to give strength to each and every one of us who are facing a global emergency crisis due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus.
According to the source, around sixty thousand eggs were distributed to the people living in Ukhrul and Hungpung village as an Easter Sunday gift.
