TNL rally demands release of UNC leaders

Ukhrul, December 09 2016:
De-manding the immediate and unconditional release of UNC president Gaidon Kamei and publicity and information secretary Shankhil Stephen, the Tangkhul Naga Long today took out a peaceful rally at the district headquarters.
Gaidon Kamei and Stephen were arrested for imposing the indefinite economic blockade which has been called to protest the design of the State Government to grant district status to Sadar Hills and Jiribam by encroaching on the ancestral land of the Nagas.
A public meeting was also held at TNL ground, Wino Bazar, Ukhrul.

At the public meeting, TNL President Weapon Zimik read out a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister of India seeking his intervention in securing the safe and unconditional release of the arrested UNC leaders.
Later the memorandum was submitted to the PM through the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul seeking his immediate intervention for the unconditional release of the arrested UNC leaders.
During the rally and the public meeting, Ukhrul town remained shut for 3 hours from 11 am to 1 pm.
