MSCW Team Visits Women Prisoners; State of female inmates studied

Manipur State Commission for women chairperson Dr L Ibetombi Devi has proclaimed that necessary measures would be initiated to enable female prisoners lodged at Imphal Central Jail live a respectable life after their release.
speaking to newspersons at the Lamphel office of the Commission today, Dr Ibetombi informed that a Commission team visited the female-only detention centre.
The team also comprising of the panel's Health Care Committee members were satisfied with the present condition of the female detainees compared to the past few years, said the Chairperson who claimed that kitchen, bed room and toilet facilities of the prison were found to be convenient as well as hygienic.

Stating that today's visit is the second by the Commission in recent times, she said medical condition of the female inmates was also assessed by medical personnel that accompanied the panel team.
Further informing that the inmates are being providing training in diverse vocational courses including weaving, agarbati/soap making and others, Dr Ibetombi confided that officials of Social Welfare Department would be urged to initiate relevant measures to enable the inmates generate income once they are freed.
