Imphal, April 09 2013:
Following the arrest of three accused in the murder case of Ningombam Satyabhama, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who is also in charge of Home Department has stated that police would submit a charge-sheet very soon before the Court.
Briefing media persons at Congress Bhavan here today, Gaikhangam stated that police have succeeded in pulling up three accused in connection with the murder of Satyabhama.
A charge-sheet would be filed against them very soon.
The Government of Manipur viewed the murder case of Satyabhama very seriously.
Accordingly a dedicated police team led by an Additional SP was investigating into it round the clock.
Toijam James alias Boy alias James s/o Toijam Jugindro of Thambalkhong Sabal Leikai, Kshetrimayum Biju s/o Kshetrimayum Ibochou of Irilbung Bazar and Thoudam Jiban s/o Thoudam Thoiba have been pulled up in connection with the murder of Satyabhama.
As for the gravity of their punishment, Court would decide it according to law, said Gaikhangam.
Nonetheless, a powerful and solid charge-sheet would be framed against them.
Pointing out that all the prime accused in the murder of Satyabhama have been pulled up, the Deputy Chief Minister appealed to all the people to return to normal life and stop imposing bandhs/blockades.
Police would make its best efforts to ensure that the criminals are awarded exemplary punishment, Gaikhangam assured.
It would not be difficult to ensure that the criminals are awarded exemplary punishment for necessary evidence as well as reports of medic-legal examinations can be collected without much difficulty.
Police have been already instructed to gather all the necessary evidence, he conveyed.
Police department has been working hard to file charge-sheets in other criminal cases against women.
Just as Manipur Police are focused on tackling insurgency and maintenance of law and order, they are equally focused on checking criminal activities in the society, claimed the Home Minister.
If there is any recommendation about lack of manpower, skill or resources for Manipur Police to deliver justice with regard to crimes against women, the Government would look into it and make its best efforts to make up the shortfalls, he added.
