Imphal, May 08 2015 :
A quick survey conducted by Hueiyen Lanpao City Reporter has found that despite the existence of public/community and pay & use toilets in Imphal City, the overall sanitation problems still remains a far cry from the desired level.
The pathetic situation in the city can be gauged from the fact that many people who come to the Capital City for all types of work still have not given up the old habit of either defecating in the open or use an abandoned spot or a wall as urinal spots.
Hueiyen Lanapo also found that many people even urinate in areas where penalties are imposed for defying prohibitions.
This Reporter came across instances of open urination in many public areas of the city.

When Hueiyen Lanpao visited the Sulabh Toilet Complex in Nagamapal, there were some people who were urinating just outside the complex's wall.
Some were seen attending to nature's call near the Naga River wall.
While the toilet complex in Thangal Bazar and Ema Keitel were put to good use by the public, the quality of maintenance were far below the expectation.
Most public toilets were found filthy and soiled.
Here, it is worth mentioning that such public toilets are home to bacteria detrimental to health of all.
