Imphal, May 06 2012:
Even as a series of agitation has been lined by the joint JAC of the rape of a Tamenglong housewife and the murder of a woman at Kakching, another allegation has been raised against a 43 year old man of trying to rape a 19 year old girl on May 3 at about 2.30 pm.
Addressing reporters today, joint secretary of Young Women's Help Organisation, Premila said that the incident occured on May 3 at about 2.30 pm when the man tried to outrage the modesty of the young girl on prtext of getting some salt.
Narrating the incident, Premila alleged that the man closed in on the girl under the pretext of getting some salt.
Both are residents of Awang Leikinthabi.
When the girl resisted, the man tried to force himself upon her, said Premila and added that the young girl managed to escape from his clutches, ran out and shouted for help.
The matter was immediately reported to the elders of the locality.
The man also tried to strangulate her, she claimed, and showed the bruises around her neck and face.
The would be rapist has disappeared, said Premila and added that while the family members claim that they do not know his whereabouts, the local organisations including meira paibis and the Pradhan have not taken up any proactive action.
Expressing grave concern over the growing number of crimes against women in Manipur, Premila said that appropriate action should be initiated against such rogues.
Premila further said that her organisation would extend all possible assistance to the young girl in their fight to get justice.
