Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi fondly remembered on his 145th Birth Anniv

Manipur joined the rest of the country in celebrating the National Cleanliness Day commemorating the 145th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2 with grand ceremony held at Gandhi Memorial Hall here today.
Chief Minister of Manipur O.Ibobi Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhanagm graced the occasion organized by state Home Department as the Chief Guest and the President respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, O Ibobi said that Gandhiji regarded cleanliness as his spiritual exercise which he wanted to adopt throughout the country, and asserted that it is much necessary to maintain a healthy environment to keep people healthy.
The CM stated that the title 'Mahatma' was given to Gandhiji in respect of his non-violence movement launched to gain the country's freedom from the hands of the British colonial rule.
The great leader also known as the Father of the Nation is respected throughout the world, he conceded.

The happiest life can be attained when one is physically and mentally fit, Ibobi added.
Gaikhangam said that Gandhi was a true leader who had always thought for welfare of the people and acknowledged that the messages of love and peace which the late leader had given more than 100 years back are still cherished by the people and would continue.
He asserted that the International Day of Non-Violence has been observed on this day since 2007 in recognition of the leaders' influential messages and works taken up by him for betterment and development of the people.
Condemning the IED blast triggered by unidentified persons at a Durga Puja pandal at Thangal Bazar on October 1 which claimed life of a commando personnel leaving 16 others injured, the Dy CM said that such inhuman act claiming lives of people will never be accepted by god as well as by the public.
He appealed to the concerned organizations behind for the deadly attack not to repeat such act in future as it will bring only harm to the people and pledged that the government will extend all possible help to the victims of the blast.
Floral tributes were paid to the statue to Gandhi as a mark of respect during the function which was also attended by Cabinet Ministers, MLAs and officials of civil and police.
