CCpur, April 02 2019:
Addressing a political rally for the Congress party candidate in Outer Manipur, former Chief Minister O Ibobi along with MPCC president Gaikhanngam and his predecessor TN Haokip today dwelt at length on the performance of the ruling coalition both at the State and Centre to project the Congress party as the only party that can serve the people and preserve the democratic fabric of the country.
With tall promises to the people, the BJP was given the opportunity to translate them into action but what they have done in the past five years appears to be obliterating what is already there.
From demonetisation to GST, and Citizenship Amendment Bill to special status and privileges of North East India, the BJP led Government at the Centre has failed the people in their attempt to garner credit, said the Congress big-wigs.
While TN Haokip said it is known to all that there is no other option but the Congress for Manipur and other North Eastern States, Gaikhanngam rebuked the Central and State Governments for their anti-people policies and their haste to claim credit at every slightest possible opportunity.
The former Chief Minister recalled the Cabinet meeting held by the current Government at Churachandpur but question how many of the decisions taken there have been translated into action.
If the Government really cares for the hill people why don't they go to interior areas such as Thanlon, Vangai, Henglep ect rather than indulging in verbal services.
Whenever the incumbent Chief Minister visits the hill districts he speaks in terms of crores without knowing the status of the State exchequer.
What really transpire from those highly publicised packages or grants are there for everyone to gauge, he said adding the upcoming poll is a crucial one which will decide where the country is heading.
The democratic fabrics of the country are at threat and it is the Congress which can protect India's democracy, save the Constitution and restore the freedom of press and expression, he said.
The ruling party lacks knowledge of ground-reality as they promised 2 crore jobs but ended up losing 1.8 lakh jobs in a year.
In their haste to claim credit they bullied the public with demonetisation at midnight and introduced GST without thinking about its repercussion.
They go against their critics and deploy the law meant for anti-national activities against their detractors.
They are besieged by wrong policies, he said.
The Congress on the other hand will deliver what it has promised.
Creating jobs to cater to the highest rate of unemployment in 45 years witnessed after the NDA rule at the Centre is a priority for the party, so is the case on stalling the CAB as was announced by Congress president Rahul Gandhi, said Ibobi.
The party will also restore the special category status granted to North Eastern States and reinstate the industrial policy implemented in the region by the Congress but done away by the BJP, if it comes to power he added.
MLA Kourungthang also addressed the gathering at YPA Hall, Hiangtam Lamka along with MPCC vice president Dr Chaltonlien Amo, the candidate K James and Langkhanpau, a member of the ADC Churachandpur who a few days back joined the party.
