Imphal, July 31 2020:
With the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) giving its consent to holding the 11th session of the 11th Manipur Legislative just for one day on August 10, the Congress party has stated that it would move the Court if the no trust motion sought against the BJP led Government is not featured in the agenda of the sitting.
The Congress had submitted an application to the Assembly Secretary on July 28 seeking a no confidence motion against Chief Minister N Biren for not handing over the high profile multi-crore drug seizure case from Lhukhosei Zou.
Moreover, two other applicants were submitted by two Congress MLAs seeking introduction of a no confidence motion against the Chief Minister in connection with the same drug seizure case.
The first application was submitted by MLA K Meghachandra and MLA Th Lokeshore with CLP leader and ex-Chief Minister Okram Ibobi as the mover.
Further, K Meghachandra and Kh Joykisan submitted two other applications to the Assembly Secretary yesterday seeking no confidence motion against N Biren and his Government.
The application submitted by Kh Joykisan cited the Government's inaction in the face of the mounting drug smuggling cases in the State.
K Meghachandra told The Sangai Express that the three applications were submitted so that a no confidence motion is moved in the State Assembly in its forthcoming session scheduled on August 10 .
In case, neither the Government nor the Speaker takes up a no confidence motion as per the rules of business and conduct of business of the House, democracy would be rendered meaningless in the State.
In such a scenario, Congress party would approach either the High Court or the Supreme Court, Meghachandra said.
On the other hand, the 11th session of the eleventh Manipur Legislative Assembly, 2020 to be held on August 10 will make obituary references for former Governor of Manipur Ved Marwah, former Deputy Chief Minister and Member of Manipur Legislative Assembly from Patsoi AC Leishangthem Chandramani Singh and former Member of Manipur Legislative Assembly from Ukhrul AC Danny Shaiza.
The tentative programme of the sitting includes presentation of Business Advisory Committee report; introduction of Government Bill(s), if any; Government resolution and other business, if any.
A meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the Manipur Legislative Assembly was held today in the Office Chamber of the Speaker to discuss the time allocation of the business of the House for the coming 11th session of the Eleventh Manipur Legislative Assembly, 2020 .
