Kamjong reels under water, power crisis

Residents in Kamjong sub-divisional headquarters of Ukhrul district are reeling under compounding crisis as they spend sleepless night for a cauldron of water and their life hit hard by irregular power supply for the past few weeks.
In a telephonic interaction with this reporter, the public in Kamjongļæ½situated about 80-km in the eastern border of Ukhrul district, shared their woes of the prevailing water scarcity as water holes are rapidly drying up this year.
A reservoir in the border town under the PHED is reportedly unable to get the adequate quantity of water required for the public.
Locals stated that Kamjong with about 2000-strong population has never faced water crisis in the last 15 years after the construction of additional reservoirs near the sub-divisional office.
It said the villagers have to burn midnight lamp looking and waiting for water from various water holes on the outskirts of the town.
To add more woes to the residents in the border town, the public are irked by erratic supply of electricity and dereliction of duties by staff in power station.
Raizan Longphang president C.Zingshongam have expressed serious concern over the erratic power supply in Kamjong while saying responsible authorities including assistant engineer and SO are not even in their station for most of the working days.
Urging the higher authorities to look into the matter seriously, he said that the dereliction of duties by staff in Kamjong power station has been suffered over the years by public.
In most occasions, according to the reports, only grade-IV staffs are found in the office and supervising officials are not available for any queries.
