Anti-Drug Campaign Continues Women march to CM's office

Demanding identification and punishment of all drug smugglers, a large number of women anti-drug activists marched to the Chief Minister's office today.
The women activists included leaders and volunteers of 15 different organisations.
On the way to the Chief Minister's office, the women marchers chanted many slogans against drug smugglers and their anti-social activities.
A memorandum signed jointly by AMKIL, Nupi Samaj, Tammi-Chingmi, Ma-cha Leima, Eechal, TDUWDO, ANUL, AMMDWO, CADA, UPF, NIPCO, AMSU, Mapi Council, UPACO and KNKSSL.
However, as some leaders went inside the CM's office, others were pushed away by police to another side.
The memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister demanded putting effective check on smuggling drugs by air routes, kingpins of all drug smuggling rackets should be disclosed, befitting actions should be initiated against derelict NAB and Narcotic Cell, the case of drug seizure at Pallel should be investigated by an independent body, police personnel who showed exemplary courage and dedication to duty in hauling up illegal drugs should be rewarded and the seven individuals including the PIB-DW PRO Col Ajay Choudhury involved in smuggling drugs before they were intercepted at Pallel should be awarded befitting punishment.

Meanwhile, Conflict Widows Forum Manipur, Christian Network for Positive Women Manipur, Women Empowerment for Justice, Self Support Group, Domestic Violence Survival Forum and Our Rest House have urged the authorities concerned to rope in either Narcotics Control Bureau or any other central agency to investigate into the recent cases of drug seizure and come up with a detail report within six months.
During a press meet Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, secretary of the Women Empowerment for Justice Ambrabati Pukhrambam representing all the organisations mentioned above said that the issue of drugs in the State has become more and more critical.
She also expressed her for the future of the society in view of the alleged involvement of many influential and powerful individuals including army officers.
After hundreds of people have been killed by both drugs and under extra judicial powers given to security forces under AFSPA, huge consignment of drugs were seized recently.
She appealed to the authorities concerned to destroy the seized drugs in full public view and do exactly what the law says in such cases.
