Imphal, June 28 2013 :
Even though the motives behind the bomb attack at a rented house last night at Uripok Tourangbam Leikai in which two non-local labourers were killed and four others including a neighbour and three other non-local labourers were injured are not clear, it might be related to the current movement concerning outsiders, stated Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Gaikhangam.
Addressing a press meet at his Secretariat South Block office this afternoon, Gaikhangam said, "It looks they did some activities to score certain advantage" .
As Assembly session is going on, a report on the incident was tabled in the House today.
It is not clear whether the bomb was lobbed at the rented house or already planted there.
Saying that police investigation is going on, the Deputy Chief Minister maintained that the matter is a very serious and complicated one as people outside the State can see it in the wrong light.
Of the two deceased, one was engaged in repairing electronic items.
As such, it is possible that the bomb was planted inside some electronic items and brought there on the pretext of repairing it only to trigger it using timer device, Gaikhangam conjectured.
People coming from outside the State in search of livelihood need to be protected by the majority communities.
Likewise, minorities living outside Manipur should be given protection by majority communities of respective States.
Being citizens of India, people living inside Manipur as well as outside the State have the right to move freely in any part of the country, Gaikhangam asserted.
There is law to take care of such criminal activities and people ought to cooperate in identifying the culprits.
Armed parties like UG groups and security forces may target each other but targeting unarmed civilians is most dastardly.
In view of the unfolding situation, the State Government has taken up necessary measures to check any attack against non-Manipuris.
However, as the situation is not that alarming, there is no arrangement as yet for opening relief camps for non-Manipuris, stated the Home Minister.
