Four women protestors sustained tear gas injuries when security personnel dispersed a silent protest rally at Moirang Bazar today demanding complete withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act and punishment of guilty personnel involved in the killing of Th Manorama Devi and Saichang village pastor Jamkholet Khongsai.
Responding to the call of the Apunba Lup several hundred women folks under the aegis of Moirang Khunou Gram Panchayat Apunba Meira Paibi began the protest march from Wangoo and proceeded towards Moirang Bazar.
The protestors besides holding placards and festoons denouncing AFSPA, also demanded withdrawal of Indian army from Manipur and carried with them effigies of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and CMO Ibobi Singh to be burnt at a public location.
As the protestors reached Laikhurembi Thongkhong passing through Moirang Bazar a team of IRB personnel confronted them and amidst bursting of tear gas also released several rounds of live bullets to disperse the agitators.
Fearing aggravation of the situation shopkeepers hurriedly downed shutters as the women protestors ran helter skelter resulting in the four women suffering injuries.
After administration of first aid at Moirang Community Hospital all the four were ruled out danger and subsequently discharged.
Meanwhile, sit-in-protest in connection with the ongoing agitation was also staged at Utlou Makha Bazar today under the aegis of Utlou Apunba Meira Paibi Lup from 1 lam till 4am.
