Imphal, June 25 2020:
The recent political turmoil in Manipur has clearly indicated that the State is racing ahead of all Indian States in terms of violation of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution (or anti-defection law), said CPI (M) Manipur State Committee in a statement today.
Defection is now not a new thing in the State, said the party while lamenting that the principle of democracy has been overrun by the principle of might is right.
It is very unfortunate for all as the present state of affairs has demeaned the National motto of "Satyameva Jayate" but is fast approaching towards "Hingsameva Jayate", the State unit continued.
Everyone is aware that the cause of the current situation was due to BJP's high-handedness to ensure its party nominee wins the Rajya Sabha seat.
The steps taken by the party heading the coalition Government have devalued the very beauty of politics, law and democracy in the State, the party said.
The leading Opposition party, INC approached the Governor and urged the Speaker to conduct a floor test to prove the strength of the ruling party and in the meantime, few MLAs are continuously trying to switch side/ defect, said CPI in shock.
To everyone's surprise, some National leaders are indulging in patch up efforts against the will of party MLAs concerned, continued CPI while appealing all concerned to call for a floor test in the State Assembly at the earliest to ascertain which side has got the majority and deserve to form the Government.
