Imphal, June 24 2020:
Strongly reacting to the recent order of the State Government that private school teachers and other staff should be paid their salaries while fees should not be levied on the students, the Hill Districts Private Schools Association of Manipur (HDPSAM) has asserted that such an arrangement cannot be followed at all.
HDPSAM instead mooted the idea of collecting 50 pc fees from students and paying 50 pc salaries to the teachers.
Speaking to media persons at Kuki Inn today, president of HDPSAM Alex Khayi said that the order issued by the Commissioner of Education (S) on June 20 is bereft of all logic.
The order had asserted that salaries of teachers and staff of private schools should be paid from April to July but no fees should be levied on the students.
Such an order is nothing but an attempt to suffocate the private schools, he said and added that this runs counter to the immense role played by private schools in educating the young students.
Stating that the order does not make sense at all, Alex Khayi said that it is from the fees collected from students, that salaries of the teachers are met, infrastructures of the school are built and unseen expenses are met.
How is it possible for the private schools to pay the teachers without collecting fees, he countered.
Alex Khayi also said that categorisation of schools according to the number of students is not acceptable.
Reiterating an earlier suggestion, Alex Khayi said that the Government should roll back the order and instead agree to the proposal to pay 50 pc of the salaries to the teachers and collect 50 pc fees.
Such an arrangement should be agreeable to the students, their parents and elders, the school managements and the teachers.
However the Government has issued an order which has not taken the reality into account, said Alex Khayi and added that HDPSAM fully endorses the stand of United Association of Recognised Schools of Manipur.
