Biren moots IT for ILP

Imphal, January 23 2020: Mooting the idea of roping in advanced technology in the process of implementing the Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) and its related monitoring tasks, Chief Minister N Biren has asked IT professionals of the State to explore advanced methods that can effectively monitor entry of outsiders into the State and their exit from the State using information technology.

He was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of the 1st MITCON 2020 which was held today at Hotel Imphal, North AOC.

The Chief Minister further observed that adopting a technology which can track location of outsiders who have been issued ILP and using the same technology at all the ILP check- posts opened at different places will go a long way in the effective implementation of ILPS in the State.

While stressing on the importance of increasing power supply for speedy development, Biren claimed that the State Government is planning to set up a solar park at a suitable place.

The Chief Minister went on to ask the IT professionals in the State to work towards promoting e-marketing while conveying that the State Government has started laying special emphasis on enhancing horticulture and agriculture produces of the State.

The State Government is looking towards increasing the productivity of vegetables and fruits which are typical to specific regions, such as the orange of Tamenglong, and the State Government will start giving necessary funds to the farmers, he added.

Biren also sought cooperation of IT professionals towards applying IT in all possible areas related with Government programmes and schemes like 'Go to Hills' and 'School Fagathansi' for effective implementation.

He said that biometric machines would soon be installed at MR/IRB outposts opened in hill districts to check the attendance of personnel being deployed there.

Former Ambassador of India to Syria, Afghanistan and Myanmar Gautam Mukhopadyay who attended as a special guest observed that IT industry is not functioning in isolation but works under a much larger system.

The former Ambassador also opined that boosting economy and development of the country should rely on its own strength and that of neighbours, particularly immediate neighbouring countries like Myanmar.

He said that the country and the North East region should think of the market below its feet.

The function was also attended by Secretary (Infor- mation & Technology) Jacintha Lazarus and INCO-TEF president Piyananda Wahengbam.
