Imphal, December 22, 2013:
Leaders of different communities, Meira Paibis and student organisations of Moreh held a joint meeting at the conference hall of Meetei Council, Moreh this afternoon and discussed the situation unfolding at the Indo(Manipur)-Myanmar border since the last few weeks.
Observing that both India and Myanmar have been sending troops along the international border following disputes regarding construction of border fence and Integrated Check Post, the meeting noted that there appears to be a stand-off between the two neighbouring countries.
This has created a situation detrimental to cross border movement as well as trade and commercial activities in the border township.
Taking serious note of the situation, the civil organisations appealed to the Government of India, Government of Myanmar and Government of Manipur to resolve the stand-off amicably.
They further appealed to suspend construction work of the ICP until a settlement is made with the Government of Myanmar.
They also appealed to let people move across the border from both sides in view of the Christmas festival in case it is not illegal.
