Imphal, October 22 2009:
The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has resolved to enable students attend classes.
Speaking to media persons this afternoon, DESAM president LC Santosh said that a public meeting will be convened on November 2, if the students are not allowed to attend classes by the end of the current month.
Saying that ensuring proper education is the principle of DESAM, Santosh said that necessary measures would be taken up to allow students attend class in accordance with the resolutions of the scheduled public meeting.
Express serious concern over the prolonged denial of formal education to students, Santosh highlighted the crucial importance of allowing students to learn.
Stating that DESAM has its principle to enable students study, Santosh said that DESAM could no longer bear with the prolonged denial of education to students in the aftermath of the July 23 incident.
In case students are not allowed to attend regular classes by the end of the current month, a public meeting will be held at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT) at 11 am of November 2 to deliberate on denial of education to students.
The DESAM president has invited students, guardians and teachers to the meeting.
Recalling that DESAM and ATSUM had already convened a public meeting on the same issue on October 21, only to be cancelled at the suggestion of senior citizens who wanted the meeting to be deferred for some days, Santosh said that the resolutions of the scheduled November 2 meeting would form the basis of DESAM's actions for ensuring that students can attend their classes.
Responding to a query, Santosh said that DESAM cannot do anything if the meeting agrees to wait for some more time.
Classes have been suspended in Imphal areas since September 9, following the class boycott call given by AMSU, MSF and KSA.
