Detention of RK Meghen MHRC asks CS, DG to report

Following a complaint filed by nine human rights groups/organisations against the alleged detention of UNLF chairman Sanayaima alias RK Meghen, the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has registered a case and directed the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) to submit reports on the matter within 48 hours (on or before November 22) .
The MHRC registered the case under Section 12 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, said a statement of the commission today.
The complaint filed by the groups including Civil Society Coalition for Human Rights in Manipur and UN (CSCHR) mentioned that the arbitrary detention of RK Meghen by some Government agencies has violated his human rights including right to life and personal liberty.
RK Meghen was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on charge of waging war against the State, for his fight for right to self-determination of Manipur, in 2010.He was convicted by the Court and served 10 years in prison.
After his release from the Guwahati Central Jail on November 9, he was whisked away by some Government agencies along with his son and lawyer.
They were then taken to Delhi.
Till date, he is reportedly being kept/confined at an undisclosed Government accommodation in Delhi, said the complaint.
