In an unusual incident, a contractor locked the main gate and dormitories of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Yaralpat (Imphal East district) in a fit of rage for not clearing the dues by JNV authority for constructing the dormitories and approach road including the drain and main gate of the campus.

Suranjoy told media persons that the construction work was taken up under the agreement with TP Cell (Valley), a construction agency, in the year 2008-09 after providing assurance of making the payment right after the completion of the construction work of girls' dormitories, approach road including the drain and the main gate.
The construction was completed last year but the agency is yet to release the huge amount of money which was spent on the said work, he added.
He further said that a formal complaint was also put forth to the Principal of JNV, Yaralpat to press the authority concerned of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti to release the payment to TP Cell (Valley) so that the agency could pay the due.
However, no positive step has been initiated by JNV, Yaralpat.
A guardian who witnessed the incident expressed dissatisfaction against the act of Suranjoy and said that resorting to such step while classes X and XII examinations are going is more or less like the students are being subjected to mental harassment.
Authority concerned of JNV, Yaralpat including the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East district who is also the chairman of the residential school should take up prompt steps to resolve the issue at the earliest, he suggested.
On the other hand, a class XI girl student expressed disappointment over the incident and said that it is a form of mental harassment as both classes X and XII students are appearing the ongoing CBSE examinations.
She said that the issue should be resolved in a more democratic and civilized manner.
Differences between the school authority and the contractor should not affect the student community, she asserted.
