In all 439 persons who suffered injuries in police action during the course of the ongoing agitation for complete withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 from Manipur have been treated at JN Hospital alone so far.
The Emergency Relief Committee being opened at the Hospital to take care of the needs of the injured protestors had received a total amount of Rs 2,10,485 as donation from public and had spent Rs 1,91,566 so far.
This information was provided by the convenor of the relief committee Keithellakpam Meghachandra during at press conference held at the hospital today.
Meghachandra said from July 16 to September 3, 439 injured protestors including 215 women and 224 men were admitted to the hospital for treatment.
However, all the injured persons have been discharged after necessary medical treatment by September 7.However, the discharged patients still come to the hospital for check-up regularly, he added.
The committee had received a total amount of Rs 2,10,485 as relief aid from various organizations and individuals from July 16 to September 9.Out of the total amount, Rs 1,91,566 have been spent on treating the injured persons, providing aid to the family members of the deceased protestors as well as on medicine, transport, stationary, diet and refreshment, Meghachandra informed.
He said that the Relief Committee will continue to provide its humanitarian services as there is no sign of end to the ongoing stir.
The Relief Committee will also continue to accept aid from the public, he added.
Expressing serious concern over the lack of adequate equipment and other necessary infrastructure at the hospital, Meghachandra informed that the matter has been discussed between the Relief Committee and the Additional Medical Superintendent and other officials concerned of the hospital.
Meanwhile, the Helpline Unit of RIMS Hospital, Lamphelpat today received a total amount of Rs 300 in cash, 80 kgs of rice and 5 jars (100 litres) of Silver Dew mineral water as relief donation from various individuals and organization to help those injured and wounded in the ongoing protests against the AFSPA of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur.
