Ramlal Paul HSS imbroglio : Govt's decision strongly opposed

Imphal, June 19 2013: Student organisations, local clubs, former teachers, families of founders, passed out students and alumni bodies of Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary School have decided to stand together against the State Government's recent decision to change the all boys school to a girls' school in an effort to admit students who could not be accommodated at TG Higher Secondary School.

It was decided in a public meeting held at the school today wherein representatives of AMSU, KSA, Youth Club, Keishamthong, All Manipur Students' Guardians Organisation, former teachers and alumni raised strong objection against the State Government's decision.

The meeting resolved to press the Government to revoke the said decision.

The meeting also pointed out that the Government cannot undermine the legacy of academic excellence, values and ethics which the school has been imparting to its students since its inception.

The meeting also observed that the Government must change the school into a 'model school' of Imphal West by putting its effort to enhance the academic condition instead of changing it to a girls' school.

The meeting also decided to constitute a committee comprising of former teachers, local club representatives, alumni and well wishers to enhance the condition of the school.

The meeting also resolved to stage an intense agitation to save the school.

Meanwhile, Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary School Students' Union has urged the Government to issue common admission form for admission at CC, TG, Johnstone and Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary Schools.

The union suggested the Government to distribute equal number of students in order to solve the problem of 'overcrowd' at a particular school.

In a press conference, union general secretary Thiyam Kishan said that it is not logical to shift the students of Ramlal Paul HSS to another school to accommodate the students of TG Higher Secondary School.

Raising strong objection against Government's plan to construct a hostel for the TG HSS alone, he also questioned why the Government is unable to give equal treatment to its schools.

Hostel must be there for all the Government schools, he added.

He also said that many of the students of Ramlal Paul HSS belong to families of weak economic background.
