Imphal, December 17 2016:
A public uproar was witnessed at Ningthemkol, opposite Tiddim Ground when security escorts of MLA Phungzathang Tonsing opened fire at bandh supporters today.
According to information culled from the spot, a team of MR/IRB personnel heading toward Imphal from the direction of Churachandpur was blocked by bandh supporters at Ningthemkol at around 11 am.
Soon after, two security personnel alighted from their Gypsy and opened fire.
They also turned their weapons toward bandh supporters.
Even as the bandh supporters fled helter-skelter.
But in the next moment, they gathered again and chased the two security personnel and the duo ran away toward MLA Phungzathang's residence located on the road leading to FCI godown from Ningthemkol.
By then, the Gypsy had already driven away in the same direction.
The angry mob gathered at the residential gate of the MLA and demanded that the two security personnel who opened fire should come out and tender an apology.
Even as a team of Imphal West District police came to the spot and tried to mollify the mob, they were not very successful.
Later, Singjamei police station OC Inspector Ingocha arrived there and brought out the two MR/IRB personnel and let them apologise to the mob.
The situation subsided only after that.
