Rishang implanted pacemaker

Ex-Chief Minister and former Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing was implanted with a new pacemaker at Sky Hospital and Research Centre, RIMS Road here yesterday.
According to Dr Shyam-kishore, the hospital's chief cardiologist, health condition of Rishang Keishing is now stable.
Speaking to media persons at the hospital today, Dr Shyamkishore said that he and a team of doctors successfully implanted a heart pacemaker inside Rishang Keishing's chest yesterday.
Now, Rishang Keishing can speak and eat, according to the cardiologist.
A new pacemaker was implanted as the battery of the previous pacemaker expired.
Saying that a pacemaker generally lasts around 15 years, Dr Shyamkishore informed that the demand for pacemakers rises as people grow older and older.
Sky Hospital and Research Centre has launched a year long programme of conducting free surgical operations among senior citizens since the current month.
Starting from admission till discharge from the hospital, all the medical expenses would be borne by the hospital.
Patients belonging to underprivileged or economically weaker sections would be give pacemakers free of cost, if required.
So far the hospital has conducted more than 100 heart pacemaker implantations, Dr Shyamkishore added.
Rishang Keishing's son MLA Victor Keishing conveyed gratitude to the doctors and staff of Sky Hospital and Research Centre for successfully implanting the pacemaker.
Notably, Rishang Keishing is now 96 years old.
