Imphal, June 15 2014:
Taking strong exception to the Government's initiative to acquire more lands along Tiddim Road from Keishampat to Malom, the JAC constituted in this connection has called a 24 hours bandh on Tiddim road with effect of June 19 midnight till June 20 midnight.
A press statement issued by the JAC said that the Government marked a line with green colour up to which Keishampat-Malom section of Tiddim Road would be expanded as an order issued by the Government in July 2010 .
According to the order, the highway section would be expanded up to 62.5 feet each on both sides.
Now the buildings/structures which stood within the marked line have been demolished and the plots where they stood have been taken over by the Government.
As their houses/shops have been demolished, the affected people have started building new houses/shops beyond the demarcated line but the Government never spelled out how far away (from the demarcated line) new houses/shops should be built.
Asking whether the new houses and shops being constructed should be dismantled again because the Government needs more land or the line of demarcation was erroneous, the JAC questioned as why the Government did not inform them in advance if more land should be acquired or a fresh survey should be done.
Urging the Government to uphold the line already demarcated for land acquisition and expansion of the highway section, the JAC said that they would be compelled to launch all types of intense agitation if more land should be acquired beyond the demarcated line.
