Imphal, September 14 2016:
In commemoration of the 18th foundation day of the International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA), a residential youth leadership training camp was opened today at Maheirel Sindam Sang, Andro Sanapat.
The opening function of the camp was attended by Andro Khullakpa Chingakham Gandhar, IPSA president Kh Chingkhei Luwangcha, Sanapat Youth Club president Sagolsem Manglem and IPSA advisor H Ibotombi Khuman as presidium members.
Giving the key-note address of the function, IPSA general secretary Kh Athouba said that IPSA has been taking pro-active roles in many socio-political issues of the State.
IPSA was established on September 14, 1998 .
Given the myriad issues plaguing Manipur such as influx of outsiders, the socio-political unrest etc, it is crucial to examine the perspectives and re-shape the goals of youth, if necessary.
The youth camp was basically aimed at grooming the youngsters to be responsible, competent citizens, develop their leadership qualities and instill a strong sense of patriotism, Athouba said.
The organisers chose Andro for the camp taking cognizance of the fact they (people of Andro) have been protecting their identity and land.
Many elements of the basic Meitei civilization are still visible at Andro.
In view of the egalitarian set up, Andro village can be projected as a model village, he said.
There is no need for ILPS or any such mechanism at Andro for they have their own regulations regarding entry of outsiders.
Many resource persons will speak on different topics during the three-day camp and it would also feature special programme called Exploration of Andro.
Participants of the camp are divided into four groups namely Chakpi, Dzuko, Siroy and Tharon, Athouba added.
