Imphal, May 14 2023:
The demand for a separate administration raised by 10 ML As of a particular community recently is a "direct challenge" to the unity and integrity of Manipur and is "not acceptable", said some
other MLAs today.
"...10 MLAs belonging to a particular community have demanded for a "Separate Administrative Unit" from Manipur State.
This is not acceptable on the ground that such a demand will lead to a direct challenge to the unity and integrity of the State of Manipur.
We therefore appeal to all to refrain from making such provoca- tive statements in the larger interest of Manipur," they said in a joint statement released to the media today.
The MLAs who have opposed to the demand raised include Karam Shyam, Paonam Brojen Singh, Kh Raghumani Singh" and Th Radheshyam.
Notably, on May 12, ten Kui-Chin MLAs had raised the demand for a separate administration for "Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zomi hill tribals" .
The 10 MLAs were Saitu AC MLA Haokholet Kipgen, Tipaimukh AC MLA Ngursanglur Sanate, Saikul AC MLA Kimneo Haokip Hangshing, Tengnoupal AC MLA Letpao Haokip, Churachandpur AC MLA LM Khaute, Henglep AC MLA Letzamang Haokip, Singngat AC MLA Chinlunthang, Saikot AC MLA Paolienlal Haokip, Kangpokpi AC MLA Nemcha Kipgen and Thanlon AC MLA Vungjagin Valte.
The joint statement of the four MLAs today said the violence that erupted on May 3 and the following days were very worrisome incidents that caused loss of lives and properties of the people and the cause was misunderstanding between the two communities [Meitei and Kuki] who have been living together peacefully in the State from time immemorial.
The incidents were beyond the boundary of humanism and as such the need of the hour is to restore peace.
In other words, the message of "Shanti" should reverberate around the State, they said.
Reacting to rumours that they are in Delhi for personal aggrandisement the four MLAs said their visits to Delhi are not for their personal/positional gain.
Their visits to Delhi were to discuss some welfare projects and to apprise the Central leadership regarding the socio-economic situation of the State and has nothing to do with any politicking.
They urged people not to believe in such rumours.
