Member of the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC), RS Rajkumar today pleaded the state Governor take up immediate action to hold a proper inquiry into the false allegation of the Ld Advocate General of Manipur against him and provide adequate personal security, preferably central security.
The plea of the member of the human rights member is related with allegation on him of associating with unwanted elements in conducting the inquiry into the July 23 shooting incident of 2009 about which a case was filed in the court of Principal Bench of the Gauhati High Court at Guwahati by the state government.
The state government is trying to have the inquiry stopped in view of the judicial enquiry conducting by Justice (retired) PG Agarwal and on the refusal of the MHRC to stop the inquiry, the state government, the director general of police and the superintendent of police, Imphal west have filed WP(C) no.4387 of 2009 before the Principal Bench of the Gauhati High Court.
"In the said writ petition, allegation of bias has been made against two members of the MHRC, including myself" that he and other members of the commission are associating with unwanted elements in conducting the present inquiry, the member mentioned in the plea to the Governor.
There is a great apprehension of attempting on his life in view of the prevailing law and order situation in the state with the state forces involved in killing many persons in alleged encounter killings and even the advocate general has made false acquisition against him in the high court.
Considering the prevailing circumstances, unless an immediate inquiry is conducted to safeguard his life and liberty as a member of the MHRC and unless adequate personal security, preferably those of the central agency is immediately provided, he himself may be another victim of clueless extra-judicial killing, RS Rajkumar, member of right commission wrote in his plea to the Governor.
