United Committee, Manipur (UCM) has urged the Prime Minister to ensure safe passage on the National Highway-39 by deploying central forces.
In a memorandum the UCM said the national highway; the main lifeline of Manipur has been blocked since July 29 by some insurgent outfits and their frontal organisations.
It also said there have been rampant extortion, looting and harassment of passengers and driver on NH-39 under the very nose of central armed and para-military forces especially between Senapati and Dimapur by the insurgent outfits and their agents.
The memorandum urged the Prime Minister to clear the national highway blockade by immediately deploying Central armed and para military forces in order to put to an end the economic strangulation of the people of Manipur by well known frontal bodies which demand greater Nagaland.
It further urged the Prime Minister to take all necessary act into ensure safe passage of the trucks and buses plying in this sector of NH-39.In a release here the UCM demanded immediate release of the two drivers abducted in Nagaland.
It also urged both the Nagaland and Manipur Government to secure safe release of the drivers.
It also urged the Centre to take measures to prevent such incidents in future.
Stating that the UCM and the people of Manipur had never indulged in any activity that may pose a threat to the unity of all the people in Manipur and may fan communal tension during the 40day long agitation against the ceasefire area extension to Manipur, UCM said it will never indulge in such activities in future also.
