Residential school for girls and boys inaugurated

A residential school (for boys and girls) constructed with funding from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt of India was today inaugurated at Chingkhei Ching, Tinseed Road in Imphal East district.
Education, CAF and PD Minister M Okendro inaugurated the residential school in the presence of Dr Ng Bijoy, Chairman, Manipur Pollution Control Board and MLA of Khurai A/C, Commissioner (Hr and Tech Edn and SCERT) and Link Commissioner (Education/Schools) P Vaiphei and Deputy Commissioner, Imphal East, M Joy.
Like the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya which provides educational facilities to girls belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe, the residential school (for boys and girls) is aimed at providing educational opportunities to the economically backward children of society under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan.
The school has 100 students� 50 boys and 50 girls (Class VI-VIII), with five teachers.
The District Board of Education chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East looks after the welfare of the school.
There are nine such residential schools and 11 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in the State according to Education Minister, M Okendro.
He further said that every section of the society should support such flagship educational programme in order to develop human resource of the State.
He added that under the leadership of the Chief Minister, the State has now given priority to health and education sectors and it is fast developing.
The State would become an education hub soon.
Expressing gratitude to the parents and guardians who took part at the inaugural function of the school, Okendro said "When parents take an active role in educating their children, the State would soon witness a sea change in education.
"Gone are the days when we were looking for marks and grades, now we must strive for quality education," he added.
He further said that in every recruitment process of the Education Department, candidates would be selected according to their quality and not solely on their marks and grades.
Meanwhile, functional president Dr Ng Bijoy stressed the need to build capacity in the field of literature and culture to develop further and education is the only key to it.
He urged the people to support the various flagship programmes more importantly in the field of education.
Guest of honour of the function P Vaiphei said that bandhs and strikes do not help in improvement of education.
Such a trend rather causes great academic loss.
M Joy stated that maximum benefits should be derived from the residential school.
An annual budget of Rs 47.2 lakh would be allocated to the managing authority of the residential school under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, State Mission Authority, Manipur for maintenance and management, stated an official of SSA/SMA, Manipur.
