Imphal, April 11 2016:
The JAC Against the Support of Theft at Sangai Shabi has expressed regret over the death of two boys out of three who were rounded up and thrashed by a mob on the charge of trying to lift vehicles at Mayang Imphal Yangbi last Thursday.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, JAC secretary Naorem Brajakumar said that the mob had no intention to kill any of the three boys.
The two dead boys might be students as contended by the JAC formed in connection with their death but they were seen as vehicle lifters on the fateful day.
At around 4 pm of April 7, three boys were about to ride a Honda Activa scooter which was parked on a farm along the road leading to Mayang Imphal Karong.
Some people saw them and they were rounded up.
As the boys were being 'chastised', a team of police came at the site and took away the boys.
Later, it was learnt that two of the boys had died, Brajakumar said.
It turned out that all the three boys hailed from Lilong areas.
Already three vehicles were lost from the same spot from where the boys were trying to ride away the particular Honda Activa.
They came to the farm riding another Honda Activa which belongs to one Salam Kirankumar.
People suspected that they stole the same Honda Activa.
In connection with the unfortunate incident, a meeting was held with the people of Mayang Imphal Bengoon on April 9 but the matter could not be resolved, Brajakumar added.
