One held in airport drugs seizure case

Imphal, May 10 2020:
Police picked up a 33 year old man in connection with the seizure of SP capsules which were brought in via air cargo at the airport yesterday.
The arrested man is identified as one Sagolsem Vikash S/o S Joy of Lamboi Khongnangkhong and he had come to receive the cargo containing the SP capsules.
On questioning, Sagolsem Vikash revealed that the contraband was sent by one Momo of Seijang, who is a serviceman of 8th IRB, Khabeisoi and currently serving as a driver of special commando, said police.
The arrested person has been remanded to police custody for 5 days (till May 15) for investigation after he produced before the District Magistrate, Imphal West.
It is reported that 5 cartons of SP capsules were seized by the police.
The seized items have been handed over to Singjamei Police Station.
Strongly reacting to the information that SP capsules have been confiscated while they were smuggled into the State via air cargo at this point of time, the Coalition Against Drugs and Alcolhol today that the seizure is a sure indication that there are elements who want to destroy the fabric of society.
In a statement CADA stated that some elements are taking advantage of the situation and trying to destroy society even as the people are undergoping extreme hardships due to the Nationwide lockdown.
Questioning how such prohibited pharmaceutical drugs were airlifted to Manipur via a cargo flight at ease, CADA alleged that there is no guarantee that the high and mighty are not involved in the case.
As the Government and the authorities concerned have failed to nab the kingpins of different drug-related cases in the State, these drugs smugglers continue their business in smug comfort, CADA claimed alleging that involvement of politicians in such remunerative business cannot be ruled out.
CADA further claimed that no punishment has been awarded to people involved in big drug cases till date even though a Fast Track Court has been established to check this.
Lauding the personnel of Airport Police station for seizing the SP capsules, CADA demanded the State Government to punish all involved as per the law of the land.
