Manipur, Myanmar eye power sharing

After an exclusive meeting with Chief Minister of Sagaing region of Myanmar, U Tha Aye, State Industry & Commerce Minister Govindas Konthoujam told The Sangai Express that the neighbouring country has expressed its interest to initiate a joint power generation unit.
"Myanmar is interested to buy power from Manipur," said the Minister.
The Chief Minister has also verbally accepted an invitation from the Industry Minister to visit Manipur.
"A study team will be formed, comprising of experts from Manipur and India along with investors who will shortly visit Myanmar." said Govindas.
In his address at a special session on exploring advantage of Horticulture, Food and Plantation at the NE Business summit today, Govindas Konthoujam stated that Manipur, the gateway to South East Asia enjoys unparalleled advantage being on the AH No 1 and 2 .
The FTA will put Manipur in the forefront, he said.
Talking about border trade with Myanmar, Govindas said that Moreh in Manipur would emerge as the land port and the ICP would be managed by Land Ports Authority of India.
Further the State Industry & Commerce Minister said that the restriction imposed by RBI in respect of barter trade mechanism between India and Myanmar needs to be withdrawn to facilitate normal trade.
The Minister stated that tourism potential is yet to be realized in Manipur.
Food processing is a viable investment opportunity in Manipur, said the Minister.
The handloom and handicraft business is another key opportunity for business.
The Minister informed that information technology is one priority sector of the State Government.
