The AMUCO will be organizing a 10 day public dialogue on the theme unity, development and peace in Manipur at Hotel Excellency from September 13.It appealed to all to participate in the dialogue which is being organized as an implementation of the resolutions taken on Integrity Day on August 4 this year.
AMUCO, in a statement, expressed concern that a wall of distrust seems to have been created between different communities.
The communal divide seems to have increased after the withdrawal of the Bangkok Agreement and it is standing in the way of the unity of the people, it said and termed it as very unfortunate for the people.
Bringing communal harmony and integrity is the most important thing.
The public dialogue is being planned on these lines so that people of different communities should sit together and sort out differences, the statement said.
To attain the goal, the Manipuri people should unite and work together to bring peace, progress, trust and understanding and a stable life, it further said.
Under the theme unity, the matters of discussion are history of Manipur: from peoples' perspective, outside interference and its impact on unity of people (1833-2001), divide and rule policy: genesis, its implementation and impact on unity, communal ideology: biggest threat to unity of people, strengthening of the peoples' unity: its imperative need for the future of Manipur, role of media to strengthen the unity of people, contribution of literature, performing arts and cinema to strengthen the unity of people and unity through struggle.
Under the topic development, concept of development: a holistic view, colonial economy of Manipur under the British rule, socio-economic and political development of Manipur (1891-2001), Manipur's path of development (1949-2001), unequal and distorted development of Manipur, captive nature of the economy of Manipur, underdevelopment: its impact on the unity of Manipur, egalitarianism and exploitation in the context of Manipur, future of Manipur developmental model and imperative need of unity to bring change and development with peoples' participation.
