Governor graces golden jubilee celebration of MSKA

Governor of Manipur and West Bengal La Ganesan today inaugurated the golden jubilee celebration of Manipur State Kala Akademi (MSKA) held at the auditorium of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal.
During the event, the Governor also presented Manipur State Kala Akademi Awards 2020 (2018-2020) to 27 selected individuals for their outstanding contribution in the fields of art and culture, tribal culture, literature and fine arts in the State.
Speaking to the gathering, the Governor said that it has been a long and enriching journey of 50 years for MSKA.
"It is an occasion to remember all those who have contributed to this remarkable journey.
The Akademi, since its inception, has been making efforts on a sustained basis for promotion, preservation and propagation of Manipur's rich cultural tradition within and outside the State", the Governor said.
Governor La Ganesan further said that the Akademi has so far conferred 636 individuals with MSKA Awards in different fields of art and culture including MSKA Lifetime Achievement Award.
Stating that the first Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred on MK Binodini Devi, the Governor added that the Akademi receives grants from the Government to take up work for preservation and promotion of art and culture.
The Akademi has also organized many programmes and projects in different fields by conducting workshops, seminars, symposia, exhibitions, cultural exchange programmes from time to time, he stated.
The Governor exuded confidence that the contribution made by the Akademi will help in the preservation, promotion and propagation of the rich cultural tradition of the State.
Education Minister Th Basantakumar Singh said that MSKA has been taking the leading role in preservation and promotion of Manipuri culture.
He said that the Akademi has been working relentlessly to showcase the rich cultural legacy through national and international platforms.
The Minister also expressed confidence that the Akademi will further strive for the preservation, promotion and propagation of Manipuri culture in the coming days.
MSKA Fellow-Professor Nongmaithem Tombi Singh (Manipuri Culture & Literature), MSKA Fellow Pukhrambam Gandha Singh (Lairik Thiba-Haiba), Manoharmayum Guneshwari Devi (Dance) and Chongtham Kamala Devi (Modem Manipuri Music) were among the awardees who were conferred Akademi Awards today.
M Joy, Commissioner, Art & Culture, L Kishworjit Singh, secretary, MSKA, scholars, artists and many students participated in the ceremony.
