Imphal, June 08 2019:
To take stock of the growing dissent and discord within the BJP-led coalition Government and explore a possible solution, BJP National General Secretary (North East in-charge) Ram Madhav and BJP Organising Secretary (North East in-charge) Ajay Jamwal held a closed door meeting with Chief Minister N Biren, Works Minister Th Biswajit and BJP State unit president and Rajya Sabha MP K Bhabananda.
Since sometime back, there were rumours about growing dissent within the coalition Government led by N Biren but it became quite palpable when six Ministers stayed away from the Cabinet meeting held at Ukhrul district headquarters on June 4.Notably, Works Minister Th Biswajit, Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen, Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar, Health Minister L Jayantakumar, YAS Minister Letpao Haokip and PHED Minister L Dikho stayed away from the particular Cabinet meeting.
Taking serious note of the growing dissent within the Government, Ram Madhav and Ajay Jamwal arrived here this afternoon separately to reconcile the dissenters, if possible.
They held a closed door meeting at Hotel Classic Grande with Chief Minister N Biren, Works Minister Th Biswajit and BJP Manipur Pradesh president K Bhabananda.
Although sources informed that Ram Madhav and Ajay Jamwal recorded opinions and observations of Biren, Biswajit and Bhabananda on the growing dissent and discord within the Government and how to reconcile the dissenters, what exactly transpired during the meeting could not be ascertained.
Later in the evening, the two Central BJP leaders met all the BJP MLAs one by one.
Sources said that one major purpose of the two Central BJP leaders' visit to Imphal is to ascertain reasons behind the growing discontentment of Ministers and BJP MLAs against the Chief Minister.
The duo would submit a report to the BJP high command and the high command would take a decision based on their report.
Given the unfolding political situation, it is not yet clear as of now whether Chief Minister N Biren would reshuffle his Council of Ministers notwithstanding the declaration he made a few days back to reshuffle the Cabinet within the current month, the sources added.
