Imphal, March 08 2021:
Yaingangpokpi, located within Lamlai Assembly segment in Imphal East district, is now fast emerging as a hub of illegal drugs, according to the Lamlai Mapari Thougal Lup (LMTL) .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, LMTL secretary general Bobisana Laishram said that Yaingangpokpi and its surrounding areas have become a major hub for drug dealers as well as drug abusers.
Chief Minister N Biren's 'War on Drugs' must be fought with all the resources of the authorities in Lamlai AC too in order to save the future pillars of the society, he said.
He went on to claim that the LMTL has already launched an intensive campaign against drugs with the common objective of making the Chief Minister's 'War on Drugs' a resounding success in Lamlai AC .
Bobisana said that they submitted a representation to the Chief Minister today to put a complete ban on all kinds of illegal drugs at Yaingangpokpi and surrounding areas.
Being inhabited by different communities, Yaingangpokpi is a very sensitive area and it is located at the junction of Kangpokpi, Ukhrul, Kamjong and Imphal East districts.
However, Yaingangpokpi police station which is keeping a vigil over such a sensitive area has been facing shortage of infrastructure and manpower, he said.
"We have already appealed to the Chief Minister to provide necessary manpower and upgrade the infrastructure of Yaingangpokpi police station.
We have been requesting the Government to attach three teams of Imphal East Commando and one team of NAB to Yaingangpokpi police station until the drug menace is effectively curbed at Yaingangpokpi and surrounding areas", Bobisana said.
He said that LMTL would spare no efforts and extend all possible support to the Chief Minister's 'War on Drugs' in order to make Lamlai AC free of drug dealers and drug abusers within the current year.
A 'Drug Free Lamlai' campaign was launched on February 28 with a bike rally, he added.
