Imphal, January 08 2011:
Amid ongoing arrangements for introduction of night landing facilities at Imphal Tulihal Airport, an aeroplane successfully landed for the first time after dusk today, thanks to inclement weather.
Kingfisher flight IT 3356 coming from Delhi landed at the airport successfully at late evening today.
The Kingfisher flight was scheduled to take off from Delhi Airport at around 10.45 am and supposed to land at Imphal Airport at 1.30 pm.
However, dense fog in the national capital made it impossible to take off on time.
Therefore, it rescheduled its timing and started from Delhi airport at 2.55 pm and landed at Tulihal Airport at around 5.06 pm.
An official of the Airport Authority of India said that successful landing of the Kingfisher flight at Tulihal Aiport at night is the first time that an aeroplane has ever landed in the airport after dusk.
It may be noted that Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, during a meeting presided over by him on December 21, had given instruction for taking up necessary measures for introduction of night landing facility at Tulihal Aiport and extend operation of the watch towers at the airport which is normally 4 pm to 9 pm.
The meeting had also given instruction to the authority of Air India for submitting a report on increasing the number of flights landing in Manipur by January 15 .
