Imphal, August 06 2016 :
Maximum efforts are being invested to make all the 85 Public Health Centres (PHC) of the State open round the clock, claimed Health Director O Ibomcha.
A team of officials led by Director O Ibomcha today inspected Machi PHC, Komlathabi PHC and Chandel district hospital which is currently under construction.
Altogether 64 PHCs have been made functional round the clock.
The total number of PHCs which would remain open round the clock would be raised to 75 by August 15 .
The new PHCs which would be made functional throughout day and night include Machi PHC, Komlathabi PHC, Jessami PHC and Thanlon PHC.
Ibomcha informed that Komlathabi PHC would start functioning round the clock from today.
Making PHCs functional round the clock require additional infrastructure such as staff quarters, equipment, labour rooms etc.
Health care delivery system would improve a lot in rural areas once the PHCs are made functional round the clock and expecting mothers will benefit immensely.
Stating that delivery at home is risky, the Director advised all women to go to health centres for delivery as it would considerably reduce IMR as well as MMR.
With GREF providing 10 ambulances and another seven by NHM, the State Government has been working to provide ambulance facility at all PHCs.
Construction of Chandel district hospital has been completed by almost 95 per cent though the room which would serve as operation theatre needs some modification as it lacked quality control when it was first constructed.
Maximum efforts would be invested to complete the construction work within one month in consultation with engineers concerned, Ibomcha said.
The district hospital is set for completion in the first week of October.
At present, the hospital has a capacity of just 50 beds but there is a possibility of augmenting it in future so that it is equipped with 100 beds.
