Airport drug haul case : Accused skip Court appearance

Imphal, March 06 2017: Okram Henry who contested in the 11th State Legislative Assembly election from Wangkhei Assembly Constituency on INC candidate and other four accused in the Tulihal Airport drug seizure case failed to appear before the Special Court, Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substance (ND & PS) Lamphelpat today.

The other four accused in the infamous drug seizure case are Sapam Angus @ Naoba @ Nanao, Md Rajauddin, Ramveer Tyagi and Rajneesh Kumar from Ghaziabad.

They were chargesheeted by CBI Kolkata Crime Branch last year.

The five accused were represented by their counsels in today's hearing of the case.

Counsel of CBI filed an order copy issued by Under Secretary, Government of India pertaining to jurisdiction of CBI to investigate NDPS offences before the Court and further undertake to file another authenticated copy at the earliest.

After hearing submissions of the counsels of both sides, the Court fixed March 10 as the date for submission of the order.

It may be mentioned that CBI Kolkata Crime Branch filed charge sheet against O Henry and other four accused on April 18 of last year bearing charge sheet number 6 of 2016 by DSP CBI Kolkata Crime Branch, BB Chakravarty for the offence punishable under Section 21, 25 (A) 29, 32 of ND & PS Act under Section 120 (b), 420, 468, 471 and 506 of Indian Penal Code.

Earlier on January 11, 2013, a team of Special Intelligence Unit under the supervision of Inspector K Ranjit along with his team seized seven unattended carton boxes suspected to be containing contraband drugs from at Imphal Tulihal Airport which were transported from Kolkata to Imphal.

When the carton boxes were searched in the presence of some eye witnesses, it was found containing Robocoof tablet and Seafied tablet.

The SIU team seized the drugs and later them handed over to Singjamei police station.

After the seizure of the drugs, the SIU team was abolished by an order of the State Government.

Later, investigation of the case was transferred to CBI by a notification issued by Government of Manipur on March 6, 2013.As per an order of competent authority of Government of India, a case was registered by CBI Special Crime Branch, Kolkata for further investigation and on completion of the investigation, charge sheet was submitted before the Special Court, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (ND&PS) Lamphelpat.
