Imphal, January 06 2013 :
Even though duplicate voters have been detected in all Assembly Constituencies of the State except three, three ACs of Senapati district account for almost half of the duplicate voters identified so far.
Under a specific instruction from the Election Commission of India, office of the Chief Electoral Officer conducted a verification exercise of the State's voter list using Google Piccasa technology.
It was during the verification exercise that 14,375 duplicate voters were detected, informed an official source.
Out of the total number of duplicate voters identified so far, 6255 duplicate voters were detected in the Assembly Constituencies of Karong, Mao and Tadubi, all of which belong to Senapati district.
Likewise, 3635 duplicate voters were detected in the two constituencies of Chandel district, of which Chandel AC accounted for 2837 voters.
Out of 1472 duplicate voters detected in the three ACs of Tamenglong district, Tamei AC accounted for 1248 duplicate voters.
As in the Assembly Constituencies of the four valley districts, the number of duplicate voters detected in Assembly Constituencies of Ukhrul and Churachandpur is quite low.
On the other hand, not a single duplicate voter was detected in the Assembly Constituencies of Khurai, Sagolband and Sekmai, informed the source.
Out of the total 14,375 duplicate voters, names of 10,182 have been deleted from the electoral rolls.
The duplicate voters were deleted from the electoral rolls after the findings were sent and verified by the District Election Officers and Electoral Registration Officers concerned.
Google Piccasa technology was first employed in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections.
Notably, re-poll was held in more than 60 polling stations after comparison of photographs of voters using the same technology.
Meanwhile, the work of affixing photographs on electoral rolls for all voters have been successfully completed.
