Imphal, September 05 2017:
Saitu Gamphazol Area Village Organization (SGAVO), a conglomeration of 44 villages of Saitu Gamphazol area as well as the apex body of various local bodies within Saitu Gamphazol, is all set to commemorate its 50th anniversary on December 8, this year .
In an attempt to motivate the spirit of its Golden Jubilee carnival among the denizens of Saitu Gamphazol area, SGAVO has come up with new ideas to draw wide-ranging awareness of the event by launching a cleanliness drive along the Saitu road, a road stretch of around 6 km connecting Sapormeina to Kholep waiting shed, near Pangmol village .
In the light of deplorable NH-2 condition, most of the vehicles except heavy and passenger vehicles ply along Saitu road, to avoid the potholed highway .
However, the increase in number of vehicles became a threat not only to the locals but also to the vehicle occupants as the road is very narrow and dotted with tall shrubbery .
SGAVO took the initiative to clean and clear the roadside shrubs apart from mending some potholes to avoid accidents and moreover, to provide a smooth ride to mark the beginning of its Golden Jubilee carnival .
Around 40/50 people including the village chiefs, SGAVO leaders and its constituent units including Saitu Gamphazol Area Youth Organization, Saitu Gamphazol Area Women Organization and Saitu Gamphazol Area Golden Jubilee Committee members took part in the initiative.
The aged ex-MP, Paokai Haokip, who engaged himself in SGAVO initiative to commemorate its Golden Jubilee and in the cleanliness drive held today said, "Where there is no culture of collective service for the people, there is no development" .
Meanwhile, Executive Member of ADC Sadar Hills and a key member of SGAVO Lunthang Haokip said that SGAVO was established in 1963 and it will accomplish 50 years on December 8, this year .
He continued that a Saitu Chief, Tongmang Haokip (retired IRS), have generously provided a land for construction of the Jubilee Park where the needful preparation began today .
Lunthang Haokip appealed to all the people of the State to acknowledge the sincere efforts of Saitu Gamphazol people for the carnival and prayed for the colourful commemoration of the jubilee.
