Imphal, September 05 2016:
Taking note of the earlier announcement made by the Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDCC) that it will be launching a series of agitation to demand that Jiribam be upgraded to the status of a full fledged district, the Zeliangrong Youth Front has asked JDCC to spell out the details of their demand.
In a statement, ZYF said that details of the villages to be included, the maps and boundary of the proposed Jiribam district etc should be put in the public domain.
ZYF said the details are necessary so as not to lead to any sort of misunderstanding.
Stating that there are speculations that some Zeliangrong villages will be amalgamated in the proposed Jiribam district, ZYF said that this will be strongly opposed if it is done without the consent of the people.
The Zeliangrong Youth Front has consistently been urging the State Government to resolve the issue of illegal encroachment in Tamenglong district by some people from Jiribam.
It was on this line that an 'Inter-District Boundary Dispute Committee' was formed with Z Kikhonbou Newmai, vice chairman of Hill Areas Committee as the chairman during a series of meeting held with the Chief Minister and other Ministers, said ZYF.
The State Government had also conducted a physical verification exercise by deputing an inquiry team under W Arthur the then Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong, claimed ZYF.
The inquiry report has already been submitted to the State Government, said ZYF and added that till date no action has been taken on the report submitted to resolve the matter.
