Khurai folks open relief camps

Khurai people have opened relief camps and are providing shelter to many people displaced by the ongoing conflict.
At least 70 people from several places in Imphal East district including Ikou, Khuman, Loushangkhong, Sekta, Uyungpok, Pukhao, Terapur are taking shelter at Khurai Sajor Leikai High School which has been converted into a relief camp.
The Relief Camp Committee's spokesperson Ph Zilla said initially there were 90 people taking shelter at the relief camp but 20 of them have moved out.
Moreover another 20 people are also taking shelter in the house of one Achousana at Khurai Sajor Leikai and an additional 40 people are also currently taking shelter at Kongpal Students' Welfare Club relief camp.
Most of them are elderly people, women and children, said Ph Zilla.
Most of the people were displaced on May 4 following the conflict that erupted during ATSUM's "Solidarity rally" which turned violent.
Yesterday, Porompat Imphal East CMO Dr Suranjoy opened a medical camp for the displaced people.
Today, Dr Sachindra's team also opened a camp for the people.
Ph Zilla continued that the local MLA, Zilla Parishad Pradhan, Members and locals are providing money, relief materials including grain, other edible items and clothes to the people at the camp.
The Relief Camp Committee will be looking after them until the situation normalises and they are safe to return home, he said, appealing to the people to come forward and donate whatever they can to provide food and other necessary relief materials to the displaced people taking shelter at the camp.
