Councillor alleges SF misconduct

Alleging unruly conduct by some security force personnel last night Imphal Municipal Council Ward No.19 councillor Yumlembam Ratikumar of Wangkhei Pujah Lampak claimed to have filed a complaint at Porompat police station demanding suitable action against the rogue security men.
Speaking to newspersons at the IMC office today, Ratikumar said in between 9.30-10 pm yesterday he came across about 2-3 persons assaulting an individual at Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi and subsequently intervened to stop the beating.
Upon being told that the individual (victim) had hit and injured an elderly person with his Activa scooter and was thus punished for rash driving, Ratikumar identifying himself as the councillor said he tried to prevail upon the attackers that police be informed to handle the issue.
With the arrival of a police team and taking away both the motorist and the injured person, Ratikumar proceeded to purchase mobile recharge card but was stopped by six persons, including the three who were assaulting the motorist, as he was returning home.
of the six persons, comprising four State police personnel both in civies and uniform, an ITBP soldier and a civilian, the police personnel questioning Ratikumar's audacity to intervene in the thrashing of the motorist reportedly threatened to shoot him.
However, intervention by the locals averted the incident from possibly going out of hand, he expressed.
Besides report the incident to Porompat police station at around 10.30 pm yesterday, he said the matter would be formally conveyed to the DGP and the Home Minister.
Contrary to the Government of Manipur claiming that law and order situation has improved significantly the unruly conduct by security personnel inspite of declaring identity is not only a serious cause for concern but testify that innocent public continue to suffer from security force atrocities, he said.
