Imphal, February 03, 2011:
The proscribed RPF and its armed wing PLA have condoled the death of its Sgt Kangla alias Athokpam Sunil Meitei s/o Athokpam Ibotombi Meitei and Athokpam Ongbi Jati Devi of Wangoo Maning Sabal Leikai.
He was 35. A press release issued by the outfit's assistant publicity secretary GM Changjou said that Sgt Kangla joined the PLA on June 8, 2002 driven by a burning desire to liberate Manipur.
Sunil fell to the bullets of a combined team of 12 Maratha Light Infantry and Bishnupur Police Commando at Adenglok, some distance away from Leimaram Waroi Ching.
Asserting that Kangla alias Sunil was unarmed on the fateful day, the outfit alleged that the claim of security forces recovering one 9 mm pistol with five live rounds was a blatant lie.
Sgt Kangla was shot dead by the combined team in cold blood after taking him into their custody, it alleged.
That Sgt Kangla was killed in a fake encounter was testified by the combined team's prohibition on entering the spot by any people including journalists.
Moreover, people settled around the area did not hear any sound of gun fight.
Sgt Kangla alias Sunil was a polite and cheerful cadre who was always respectful to elders.
He was a brave revolutionary who could sacrifice his own life for the nation and the party, the outfit recalled.
It also conveyed solidarity to the bereaved family, relatives and friends.
Condolence prayers were also held in all the departments/units of the party and the army in honour of the departed soul, the outfit added.
