Tengnoupal, November 02 2020:
The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has decided to impose a 48 hour bandh on National Highways and stall all National projects with effect from November 5 .
ATSUM earlier announced that it would impose a bandh on National highways and stall all National projects from October 26 but the proposed agitation was put off for 10 days following an assurance from the State Government that the ADC election would be held soon.
Speaking to media persons at the office of Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Tengnoupal Block at Tengnoupal headquarters today, ATSUM president Seiboi Haokip said that the six months extension given to the incumbent ADCs had expired and election should be held in October/November.
Although it has been eight days since the Government gave its assurance to hold the ADC election soon during a meeting with ATSUM and its affiliated units, the Government has not yet initiated any single step to hold ADC election, Seiboi Haokip said.
Pointing out that the 10 days period given to the Government expires on November 4, the ATSUM president said that they have decided to go ahead with the 48 hours bandh and stalling of all National projects from November 5 .
He then appealed to all the concerned not to advocate extension of the term of office of the incumbent ADCs by another six months for the second time.
ADCs are for the people and procrastination of the periodic election for protracted period is nothing but violation of people's democratic rights, Seiboi said.
He said that water supply, power supply, medical services, COVID-19 related activities and media would be exempted from the purview of the 48 hours National highway bandh.
