Imphal, October 02 2022:
The Joint Tribe Students' Association (JTSA) has said that they won't accept any scheduled survey at the site for National Sports University (NSU) and has appealed the authority concerned to bring an amicable solution regarding the ownership of land for NSU within 2 weeks.
JTSA, which is a joint body formed by All Inpui Students' Union (AISU), Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi (LNKR), Rongmei Naga Students' Organisation Manipur (RNSOM) and Zeme Students' Organisation Manipur (ZSOM), said this in a statement issued today following report of a planned visit at the contentious site by an official team comprising of YAS Minister Govindas Konthoujam and Saitu AC MLA Haokholet Kipgen on October 4 .
The statement added that representatives of JTSA and Konsakhul Area JAC held several rounds of talk with the Government and a number of MoUs and agreements were inked between the representatives of both sides.
However the Government has clearly sidelined those agreements.
During first round of talk held on January 31, 2021 between the Government and the Konsakhul Area JAC, the Chief Minister had assured the JAC that the Government would send recommendation to the Central Sports Ministry to review and change the name of the NSU to NSU Konsakhul, added the statement.
The statement added that during the second round of talk held on February 25, 2021 at the Secretariat conference hall chaired by the then YAS Minister Letpao Haokip in the presence of several Ministers and officials of YAS, it was agreed that the land considered for NSU construction belongs to Konsakhul (Konsaram) and to rename the NSU as NSU Konsakhul.
But in contradiction of various MoUs and agreements signed between the State Government and the Konsakhul villagers, the Government is reportedly planning a survey of the site without informing the rightful owners of the site which is very unfortunate, JTSA added in the statement.
Instead of initiating steps as per agreed position during the last round of talks, the Government is siding with encroachers who are claiming the site as their own, alleged JTSA in the statement.
JTSA also alleged that the Government has already started work at the said site without paying due compensation to the legitimate land owners of Konsakhul (Konsaram) village which is in direct violation of fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution of India.
If the issue is not resolved within two weeks time, JTSA and the people of Konsakhul (Konsaram) will resort to strong forms of agitations, warned the statement.
